Currently the The Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition (C&ISPC) has over 75 members representing Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and includes schools and afterschool programs, mental health, law enforcement, and emergency medical service agencies; organizations representing suicide survivors; and groups representing communities whose members may be at risk for suicide including youth, the elderly, or those with mental health or substance abuse disorders, individuals and families who have experienced suicide, as well as a variety of health and human service agencies.

Coalition Meetings take place:
2nd Thursday of the month: Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, Rms 11/12, Barnstable Superior Courthouse, 3195 Main St, Barnstable ~ 11:15 AM – 12:45 PM and the
4th Tuesday of the month: Nantucket Healthy Community Collaborative, Fairgrounds Restaurant, 27 Fairgrounds Rd., Nantucket @ 12:00 Noon

FY2016 Accomplishments:

Cape and Islands Regional Coalition

14 QPR trainings were held all over the Cape and Islands reaching over 180 individuals who are now trained as gatekeepers.

In collaboration with many of the school systems on the Cape and Islands, we were able to assist in the SOS training model for over 550 students and staff.

September: PR related to Suicide Prevention Week:  Barnstable Patriot (Suicide Prevention Week Begins Sunday, highlighting local Coalition events), Cape Cod Times (Ceremony Thursday to Remember Those Lost to Suicide, with details about the annual meeting and Ribbon Ceremony, Putting a Spotlight on Suicide: Coalition Urges Treatment, Understanding), Cape Cod.com (Loved Ones Lost to Suicide Remembered), WCAI included crisis line phone numbers on air during National Suicide prevention week, in addition to airing various Transom Story Hour pieces on depression and suicide to raise awareness

Five steering committee members and staff became certified trainers in SOS: Youth suicide prevention.  QPR Gatekeeper Training Certification—Event Coordinator and 1 steering committee member attended and were certified

Co-sponsored Elder Suicide Prevention Training with the Samaritans of Cape Cod and the Islands.  Assisted Riverside with a postvention training to educators and supported an ASIST training, sponsored by AFSP and the Coalition
