MCSP-Cape and Islands

Currently the The Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition (C&ISPC) has over 75 members representing Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and includes schools and afterschool programs, mental health, law enforcement, and emergency medical service agencies; organizations representing suicide survivors; and groups representing communities whose members may be at risk for suicide including youth, the elderly, or those with mental health or substance abuse disorders, individuals and families who have experienced suicide, as well as a variety of health and human service agencies.

Coalition Meetings take place:
2nd Thursday of the month: Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, Rms 11/12, Barnstable Superior Courthouse, 3195 Main St, Barnstable ~ 11:15 AM – 12:45 PM and the
4th Tuesday of the month: Nantucket Healthy Community Collaborative, Fairgrounds Restaurant, 27 Fairgrounds Rd., Nantucket @ 12:00 Noon

2012 Accomplishments:

Coordinated Suicide Prevention Awareness Week activities including displays at 7 local libraries, World Suicide Prevention Day ceremony with local elected officials and tables at local community events

Laughing Away the Blues ‘spirit-raiser’ and silent auction event attended by 150 people

Sponsored 20 runners in the Falmouth Road Race to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention

Public education series including a Workplace Business Wellness Forum, Battlemind presentation featuring Kevin Lambert and a Men Get Depression television show which aired for 2 months on local cable stations

Hired a part time training coordinator and conducted suicide prevention trainings (3 QPR, 4 CONNECT, 2 ASIST and 4 Older Adult.)
