Advocacy Works!
Since 1998, when advocates from SPANUSA hosted the national Reno Suicide Prevention Conference, a grassroots movement has been building momentum. The Reno Conference brought together over 400 of the nation’s leading scientists, suicide prevention experts, and public health officials who joined with the energy and passion of those impacted by suicidal behavior and drafted the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
Since that historical gathering, advocates across the U.S. have mobilized to promote action for suicide prevention in all 50 states. Here in Massachusetts, advocates have been meeting continuously since 1999, when the Massachusetts Working Group for Suicide Prevention was convened.
It only takes one committed individual, working in partnership with others, to make a difference. You can be that person! You are the key to preventing suicide in your community.
